Are you on Facebook again? Facebook a fad just like others from the past like the Hula hoop to Pac Man will not last right. When the Atari was introduced people were amazed with the graphics in the games produced (Donkey Kong).
The birth of the household computer was underway. Although in the early 80's having a Commodore 64 did not guarantee social success in high school. But before Facebook is buried with the Rubik's Cube checkout some brief facts: Started by Harvard students, Headquarters in Palo Alto, California, 2004 started for 40 million dollar investment, 2005 lost 3.5 million dollars, 2007 turned down 750 million dollar sale offer,2008 Businessweek estimates the worth at 5 billion dollars and in 2009 Paul Buchheit joined on he created gmail when with Google. He is famous for coining the phrase "don't be evil" and invented "news aggregate Friendfinder".
Facebook's technology grows daily and is intertwined in society. Through cell phones to personal computers Facebook is growing to over 250 million world wide. Where else can a soccer mom be a "Mafia Don" and help save the Rain Forest with a (lil) Green Patch. Not to mention catching up with people you did not hang around with in high school. There is a new "firkin" game created everyday on Facebook I read.
With all the traffic to this social network service the business industry has taken notice. You find fan pages of public figures to the local hair salon down the street with a Facebook page. Facebook has one feature many business owners and people can not resist it is free. Allowing your profile picture or logo and information to be broadcasted to everyone along with your cousins wedding pictures. Everytime you watch anything from news to gossip their on Facebook and they would love for you to become a fan.
Facebook by the numbers cuts across every social level of society. Meaning the man who lives in the Oakleigh District has a Facebook page and so does the homeless man who sleeps in front of his house at night (library hours only). Each day another gives in to the fad. So if you ask someone "are you on Facebook again" they most likely are and their waiting on you to join.
