I'm on a boat docked in Mobile, Alabama. We'll be docked here for two more weeks. I'm paid hourly and I'm not able to leave the boat when I get off work for fear of disciplinary action. Is this allowed under Alabama state law? What happens if I get a write up or fired for leaving when I'm not being paid? I'm not a merchant marine. And I don't recall having signed a contract like that stating I can't leave. They've already repremanded two people on board for leaving and I don't want to be another. They won't let us leave the boat even though we're tied up to the dock despite that they're not paying us to stay here.... Read More »
